A Letter from President and CEO, Dana Soehn

April 2024
Dear Friends,
Thank you for being a longtime supporter of Friends of the Smokies! I am honored to be the new President of this organization that was started on September 3, 1993, by a group of dedicated individuals who deeply cared about the long-term protection of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We are now celebrating 30 years of ongoing support because of donors like you!
Reaching this 30-year milestone, along with the transition in leadership, has provided a great opportunity to assess our programs. I am proud to report that the Friends of the Smokies is one of the most highly respected philanthropic partners for National Parks across the country. The success of this organization is due to dedicated donors, engaged Board of Directors, and an incredible staff who continually strive to meet the growing needs associated with America’s most visited National Park.
We are making some changes to improve stewardship and are notifying all donors about a simplification of the membership program. The Friends of the Smokies is no longer coordinating a membership card or discount program. Just by donating, you will receive monthly communications from Friends of the Smokies to keep you informed about how your donor dollars are making a difference in Great Smoky Mountains National Park! You’ll also be invited to participate in opportunities throughout the year inside the park to learn more about the resources and programs sustained by Friends of the Smokies supporters like you.
If you previously set up an automatic online contribution, it will be processed on schedule as a donation. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. For assistance, call our office at 865-932-4794 or email our Chief Development Officer, Marielle DeJong, at marielle@friendsofthesmokies.org.
We are grateful for your continued support. Your annual gifts are making a lasting impact in Great Smoky Mountains National Park!
With gratitude,

Dana Soehn
