Join Friends of the Smokies for a special overnight experience in Cades Cove, June 11-12.
This special fundraiser includes two days of Classic Hikes of the Smokies, the opportunity to experience the natural and cultural history of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and social events in Townsend.
On Monday, June 11, the afternoon hike will be to Abrams Falls, roundtrip 5 miles.
The evening activities include a social cocktail hour, a meet and greet with National Park staff, and dinner at Miss Lily’s. Overnight lodging is at Tally Ho Inn.
Tuesday starts with breakfast. Hikers then will chose one of two guided hikes.
Option 1: Rich Mountain Loop (8.5 miles)
Visit John Oliver Cabin, one of the oldest structures in the national park. Smokies author and hiking expert Danny Bernstein will lead this hike.
Option 2: Gregory Bald (11.4 miles)
See vividly colorful azaleas and sweeping vistas of this grassy bald, which is home to the original Appalachian Trail. Steve Pierce, who has hiked all 900 miles of trails in the park, will lead the hike.
The cost is $350 single and $500 couple. Space is limited.
