NC Campground Maintenance

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is hosting 3, upcoming volunteer work events to complete much needed work in Smokemont Campground in the North Carolina side of the park. Individuals and groups are invited to sign up for any of the scheduled work days.

Work will mostly involve blowing leaves and removing debris from within the campground.  We will also address any fire rings and tent pads that need basic maintenance.

The workdays will begin at 9:00 a.m. and last until noon on Thursday, January 23 and 30th and also Thursday, February 6.

Tools and safety gear, including gloves, ear and eye protection, and high visibility vests, will be provided by park staff.  Participants are required to wear sturdy footwear and dress for cold, wet and changing weather conditions.

Age is limited to those over 16.  No experience necessary for using a leaf blower. Instruction and safety protocols will be discussed on site.

Adopt a Trail (Ongoing)

Help extend NPS presence in the backcountry by joining this ongoing volunteer program.  Commit to hike adopted trails at least 5 times/year to report conditions, blowdowns, and other hazards.  Volunteers are able to provide hikers with information and promote Leave No Trace practices.

Please contact Trails and Facilities Volunteer Coordinator, Adam Monroe, at 828-497-1949 or adam_monroe@nps.gov prior to the scheduled event date to sign up and receive more information.

Thank You!  Hope to see you there!
