Located on the North Carolina and Tennessee state line, Kuwohi is the highest peak in the park and the entire Appalachian Trail. It is the third-highest summit in eastern North America, 40 feet shy of matching the tallest peak at Mount Mitchell.
The overlook at Newfound Gap straddles the North Carolina and Tennessee state line along the Appalachian Trail. It is home to the two-tiered stone Rockefeller Memorial where President Franklin D. Roosevelt officially dedicated the national park in 1940.
Purchase Knob is located on the southeastern boundary of the national park in North Carolina and is home to the Appalachian Highlands Science Learning Center.
The Look Rock webcam is at the observation tower along the Foothills Parkway in Tennessee, which is part of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It provides expansive views of the park and the East Tennessee Valley from a prominent ridge.
